After First Impressions, 2026

Ghanaian artist Benjamin Asante brings Austen’s world into the visual and emotional language of the present, using swirling strands of yarn to create portraits that reveal new layers up close. Darcy and Elizabeth inhabit a richly appointed interior steeped in history, where antiques, portraits, and twin candles deepen the story of their relationship. Elizabeth holds Pride and Prejudice itself, placing her intelligence and inward life at the center, while a portrait behind Darcy gestures toward his love for his mother. Black elegance, inheritance, and intimacy take their place within Austen’s world.
