In Bring Back the Daisies, Sheyda Mehrara paints directly onto a piece of 1920s sheet music, layering abstract brushstrokes over the waltz to capture both the rhythm of jazz and the fleeting intensity of Gatsby’s world. Taped seams symbolize Gatsby’s fractured past, while the lyric “daisies,” paired with yellow pastel, casts Daisy as the glowing beacon of his obsession. With sweeping lines and dissonant notes, the work embodies longing, memory, and the relentless replay of a single night.
