In Extraordinary Ordinary, Matt Mele turns his lens toward the domestic interiors of inherited wealth—brocade chairs, floral upholstery, ornate wallpaper. At first glance, they suggest luxury; on closer inspection, they feel fragile, maybe overdone. Never staged, Matt’s photographs capture the hidden narratives that objects tell, asking: What do these heirlooms conceal as much as they reveal? The work embodies his larger practice, unearthing the twisted legacies of American beauty, privilege, and memory through the artifacts we leave behind.
