Icing on the Disgrace, 2026

In Icing on the Disgrace, Paulette Pearson (Dallas, TX) captures the moment Elizabeth’s carefully composed world begins to fall apart. Inspired by Lydia’s elopement with Wickham, the work uses a beautifully decorated cake to explore how quickly reputation can crumble beneath its polished surface. Rendered in colored pencil, the image brings humor and heartbreak together, imagining Elizabeth’s distress as a rare, almost absurd moment when dignity meets disaster—face first in cake.
