In Ruins of Empires, Michelle comments on the Creature’s relationship to the natural world by painting on a cross-section of a tree and using earthy, muted colors of handmade natural paints. The wood serves as a canvas for the creature’s silhouette, similar to how the Creature himself is made of organic materials. He stands alone in the forest, both menacing and at one with nature.
