You Dream, You

Daisy’s daughter Pammy, rarely given more than a brief mention in The Great Gatsby, is brought into focus here with tenderness and possibility, her entire life stretched before her. Alicia paints the child as both luminous and impressionable, yet caught in the orbit of her mother’s desires. For Gatsby, Daisy is the ultimate dream; for Daisy, Pammy becomes an extension of that dream, both proof of her life and a reflection of its illusions. The painting offers a reminder of the influence we have on our children; how the dreams we chase shape the ones they inherit.
